RockYou and Flixster Discuss OpenSocial

26 June 2008 2 Comments

Jian Shen From Rockyou and Joe Greenstein from Flixster sat down at a OpenSocial Hackathon from few months ago and discussed the pros and cons of OpenSocial and a little about what they do.  More after the jump.

For those who don’t know OpenSocial is an API (Application Programming Interface) that is meant to be a more universal way to program.  It was developed by Google (of course, much like everything cool).  And is based on HTML and Javascript.  To learn more about it check out the OpenSocial blog.

And RockYou is a leading widget and app maker while Flixster is a social movie site.  You have probably seen their stuff on Facebook or any other social networking site.  And you may have read about the slight rivalry between RockYou and Slide in the book Once You’re Lucky, Twice You’re Good: The Rebirth of Silicon Valley and the Rise of Web 2.0 by Sarah Lacy.  And if you haven’t read that book and you are into anything Web 2.0, start-ups, tech, whatever; go read it now!  It a very good read.  It just came out so it will be sitting there at Borders, Barnes and Noble or on the Amazon website.  Get it!  Seriously.  Now, watch the clip!
